Instruction and coaching

What types of instruction are offered?

We offer personalized instruction for any level of skill. The learning never stops. There are levels to this, and we don't claim to know everything and generally will learn from students as well. Specifically how to be a better teacher. We offer instruction on any topic we are proficient at.

What level are you?

Are you completely new? Are you a veteran with decades of shooting experience? Or are you somewhere in between? There are three main areas where we can help. Shooting, editing and gear/software selection. What we have to offer...

  • completely new - lets start with setting some goals for you. It can start with just using your phone or maybe you have or want to get a dedicated camera. We will help to get you started the right way. It is not just about the camera. It is about quality of light, composition and the skills needed to understand and operated the camera proficiently. Once we learn your goals we will tailor a program to accelerate your learning curve to the max.

  • Experienced shooters - Do you have a specific area that needs work? Do you have a plan on how to get there? Do you have a bucket list of photographic genres you want to learn such as studio lighting, astro, sports, wildlife etc? This is where we come in. Incremental practice programs are what make the difference. Walk before you run as the saying goes. We'll provide the map to get there.

  • Editing - Collecting data (shooting) is only half the job. Manipulating the data to maximize the final result is the other half (editing). If you are new to editing, we can get you started using a number of programs that are available online. Some options are free while others you have to pay for. We are proficient in many programs and plug ins (specific add on tools that some programs accept). The major software packages we are currently using include Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, Capture1, DXOphotolab and Deep Prime, and a few other lesser known products like Topaz or NIK.

If you are a photography hobbyist and are looking for another source of knowledge, drop us a line and we'll come up with custom instruction packaged tailored to your skill level and photographic goals. Here at Pete Love's Pixels we don't stick to one discipline and neither should you. Photography is a life long journey. Things like street, wildlife, nature, landscape, there are so many types. We don't claim to be the be all end all in any one type. There are levels in each area and we are also students of the game operating at a high level in multiple areas but reaching a point where enough knowledge is here and that needs to shared and passed on.

This is a personal mission.

Pass on photography. Lead by example. Never stop learning!

Before we start, please remember that the gear is not what makes you a good photographer. It is the work to learn your craft that will get you there. The gear is nothing more than your tools the same as a wrench would be for a car mechanic. If you are completely new to photography and want to make an upgrade from your phone, please contact us, we'd love to help you make some good gear choices. The biggest problem a new photographer has is making a good choice when finally investing in your first dedicated camera. How is someone new even supposed to know what questions to ask when they don't know what challenges they need to overcome? Let our experience help you. We don't sell cameras so we have no reason to steer you in the wrong direction. We want to see photography grow and getting started with a good foundation is far more enjoyable than having to change out gear 6 months in because what you have can't do what you want. There are specific gear strategies to maximize your capabilities and minimize your dollar output. This is a free service to new shooters and one way we give back to the community.
